Associate General Counsel for Policy

The Policy Division drafts advisory opinions and regulations for Commission consideration and counsels the Commission in audits and other matters requiring interpretation of federal campaign finance law. In addition, the Policy Division provides guidance regarding implementation of legislation and court decisions and conducts legal reviews of Commission publications.

Erin Chlopak was appointed Acting Associate General Counsel for Policy effective July 23, 2017. Ms. Chlopak previously held the position of Assistant General Counsel for litigation, and has worked at the Commission since February 2009. Before coming to the Commission, Ms. Chlopak was an Associate at the law firm of Sullivan & Cromwell, LLP in Washington, D.C., and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Helen Gillmor, U.S. District Judge in Honolulu, Hawaii. Ms. Chlopak received her B.A. from Johns Hopkins University, and her law degree from American University, Washington College of Law.
