Week of April 15 – 19

No Commission open meetings or executive sessions were scheduled this week.

Comments Received

AOR 2012-38 (Socialist Workers Party). On April 18, the Commission made public a supplement to the request including comments on the draft advisory opinions. The Socialist Workers Party (SWP) is seeking a renewal of a partial exemption the Commission has granted in the past from certain reporting requirements of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, as amended, (the Act) and Commission regulations. The exemption has allowed the SWP to avoid disclosure of the identities of contributors to the SWP and the identities of recipients of SWP disbursements. The SWP files reports with the Commission containing coded references for itemized contributors and recipients of disbursements, rather than names, addresses and other identifying information.

AOR 2013-02 (Winslow). On April 18, the Commission received a comment on Advisory Opinion Request 2013-02. Dan Winslow is a candidate for Senate in the April 30 Massachusetts special election. He asks whether his committee may apply the "spouse contribution rule" to contributions from same-sex couples who are lawfully married under the laws of a state that recognizes same-sex marriage.

Advisory Opinions and Requests are available through the Advisory Opinions search page in the Law and Regulations section of the Commission website.

Libertarian National Committee, Inc. v. FEC (No. 11-cv-562 (RLW)). On April 15, the Commission filed its Motion to Alter or Amend the Judgment in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
